  • Apple's getting sued by MacBook owners over keyboard failures

The second is, Kyle Barbaro, who suffered through a similar situation with his 2016 MacBook Pro when his space bar and caps lock keys were rendered useless. This was first spotted by AppleInsider, which also has access to the lawsuit statement.

Just as the report about the class action broke out, a petition, which has garnered a massive 17k signatures in just over a week, has called on Apple to recall all MacBook with butterfly switch keyboards, citing that the hardware design is flawed inherently while manufacturing.

A few owners of MacBook Pro 2016 release filed a lawsuit against Apple. A Federal Court class action lawsuit was filed on Friday against Apple over alleged defected keyboard designs which were incorporated in MacBook models from 2015.

Unresponsive keyboards in a MacBook or MacBook Pro render the devices unsuitable for use. According to the complaint, people who bought the MacBook or MacBook Pro that came equipped with the butterfly keyboard have been facing a constant threat of non-responsive keys as well as keyboard failure.

Former Malaysian PM Razak banned from leaving country
Anwar, a former deputy prime minister in the ruling party, was also imprisoned under Mahathir following a power struggle. He subsequently joined the opposition and handed his former camp an astonishing election defeat.

The suit demands Apple publicly disclose the design flaw and pay damages to remedy or replace the defective units. It targets MacBooks from 2015 or later and MacBook Pros from 2016 or later, all with the butterfly keyboard. "Because typing is the primary objective of laptops, over time, consumers have become more and more frustrated with the keyboard defect".

Specifically, the lawsuit states that Apple's claim that the butterfly keyboard offers "four times more key stability than a traditional scissor mechanism" is a false representation of the product. Later, the Cupertino giant advertised this butterfly keyboard as being more responsive and comfortable than its previous iteration. Extreme cases will require the user to take their laptops for service at a Genius Bar or authorised Apple fix facility, which can be a pricey affair. Whether the keyboards are eventually fixed in a newer model remains to be seen, but for now, exercise some caution when buying a new Apple laptop, particularly if you type a lot.

Claims to this effect have surfaced periodically over the past two years, sustained in part by the scoldings of well-regarded Apple developers and bloggers who characterize MacBook keyboards as shoddy. For customers outside of the warranty period, Apple denies warranty service, and directs consumers to engage in paid repairs, which costs between $400 and $700.

Apple officially advises users with the affected MacBook models to blast their keyboards with compressed air.
