The No. 2 USA automaker also said production would resume on Monday at a second F-150 plant in Kansas City, Missouri, as well as its F-series Super Duty truck plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

The F-Series is the best selling vehicle in the United States, so Ford acted quickly to get production back on line.

Ford Motor Co said on Wednesday that production of its popular and highly profitable F-150 pickup trucks would resume on Friday at its Dearborn, Michigan, plant, which had been closed for more than a week because of parts shortages caused by a fire at a key supplier.

Dearborn-based Ford put together a team that refurbished and relocated tooling needed to make parts for the vehicles. "The ramp-up time to full production is improving every day". The Eaton Rapids plant is producing truck parts again.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk Defends Self-Driving Cars After Latest Crash
While the Model S owner's manual says drivers should not use Autopilot on city streets, it does not prohibit them from doing so. The driver in that incident died, but Tesla said he was pulled from the vehicle before it caught fire.

That work stopped after a fire at a parts supplier on May 2.

"Faced with unexpected adversity, the Ford team, including our global supply partners, showed unbelievable resiliency, turning a devastating event into a shining example of teamwork", said Ford's executive VP of product development and purchasing.

The plant, which employs about 8,100 hourly workers in all, has continued to make Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs. This is in stark contrast to usual procedure which typically requires 10 days just to get the proper import and export approvals.

"Inventories of Ford's best-selling F-Series pickups and other vehicles remain strong and customers won't have a problem finding the model they want", Ford says.
