  • Israeli President Reuven Rivlin shakes hands with his Guatemalan counterpart Jimmy Morales at the presidential compound in Jerusalem

In appreciation to Guatemala for moving its embassy to Jerusalem, the Old City walls were illuminated with the country's flags.

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu praised the Central American nation for making the move, and said he would visit Guatemala on his next visit to Latin America.

Wednesday, may 16, the Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales inaugurated in Jerusalem Embassy of their country, moved there from tel Aviv.

Morales announced his decision to move Guatemala's embassy to Jerusalem in March as a show of support for the U.S.' decision to do the same, in a move that further reaffirms a decades-long relationship between right-wing Guatemalan governments and successive Israeli governments.

"You have been all the time among the many first", he stated.

Paraguay said it will move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by the end of May.

Trump's move broke with decades of worldwide consensus that Jerusalem's status must be negotiated between the parties, drawing near global condemnation.

The US embassy move on Monday was accompanied by mass protests and clashes along the Gaza border that saw Israeli forces kill 60 Palestinians.

NC Representative calls teachers "thugs" ahead of May 16 rally
More than 15,000 teachers signed up to attend the rally, but it's unclear how many will take the day off and come to the march. In Colorado , a strike by teachers in the Pueblo City School District resulted in a 2% pay raise for educators on Monday.

Morales said his country, Israel and the United States "share friendship, courage and loyalty". In Geneva, the United Nations human rights office said Israel has repeatedly violated worldwide norms by using deadly live fire to repel protesters.

Israel has faced global criticism over its use of live fire, but says its actions are necessary to defend the border and stop mass infiltrations from the Palestinian enclave, which is run by Islamist movement Hamas.

Since the Hamas-led protests began on March 30, more than 110 Palestinians have been killed and some 2,500 have been wounded by live fire, according to the Palestinian health ministry. It also triggered a diplomatic backlash against Israel.

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan dramatically ratcheted up his rhetoric this week over Gaza and the U.S. embassy move.

TRT World's correspondent Ediz Tiyansan reports from Guatemala.

The embassy is located in Jerusalem's Malha Technological Park.

The Palestinians also withdrew their ambassador to the USA on Tuesday.
