Joachim Low explains Leroy Sane's 2018 World Cup omission

  • Sane left out of Germany squad

Attacking midfielder Leroy Sane was a surprise omission from Joachim Loew's final Germany squad for the World Cup finals on Monday as goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was named among the 23 players heading to Russian Federation for the defending champions.

It was also Manuel Neuer's first match since September 2017, and it has been confirmed that Die Mannschaft's captain, who missed large parts of the 2017/18 campaign due to injury, has made Low's squad for Russian Federation.

Do you think Germany can defend their World Cup title in Russian Federation?

Low has claimed that the presence of Brant, Julian Draxler, Marco Reus and Thomas Muller made it hard for him to select Sane, but the Germany manager has backed the attacker to be a key player in the future.

The question of poor form on the part of the 22-year-old seems at odds with his performances in the Premier League, with Sane having won the PFA Young Player of the Year award for 2017-18 due to his form for champions Manchester City. To get the latest soccer news, text "SPORTS" to 22840.

He was forced to resign from his position over an investiture dispute with Rajoy, which left Spain stuck in a political stalemate. Sanchez, however, refused to go quietly. "For the first time we may get a prime minister who didn't win elections", he retorted.

He might have shone at club level, but Low's view that Sane has yet to make a real impact on the global stage is not without merit.

However, instead of Sane, Germany Coach Joachim Löw opted for the likes of Julian Draxler, Marco Reus, Julian Brandt and Sebastian Rudy.

Low explained it was a "very close decision" between Sane and Bayer Leverkusen's Julian Brant, who ultimately got the nod, adding that Sane, "has not arrived in global matches yet". Draxler, Reus and Muller are set. "He will be back again from Sept", Low said.

"He has not arrived in worldwide matches yet".

Nils Petersen, Jonathan Tah, Bernd Leno were the other three who failed to make the final cut.
