Government forces in Indian-controlled Kashmir have fired shotgun pellets and tear gas at hundreds of mourners during a funeral march for a man killed when he was run over by a paramilitary vehicle during a protest.

Strongly condemning the crushing of yet another youth by armed forces under its vehicle, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani said, "So-called security forces with each passing day provide ample proof of enforcing the much hyped ceasefire by Delhi". The shutdown was called three days ago but Srinagar youth Qaiser Amin's killing under the wheels of a CRPF vehicle on Friday gave it added salience. Doctors told Al Jazeera that the man is in stable condition and is being treated with facial and zygomatic fractures.

An unidentified official said that in the first attack the militants hurled a grenade on CRPF 82 battalion at Fatehkadal area of Old City in Srinagar, reported Kashmir Dispatch.

Reports said the body was later loaded onto a truck and driven to Eidgah where thousands of people had already assembled to take part in last rites. "Ceasefire means no guns, so use jeeps?" he tweeted along with a picture of youth crushed under CRPF vehicle.

Young Kashmiris living in the USA organised an event in NY to raise funds for the Kashmiri youth who have suffered damage to their eyesight due to the pellet firing by the Indian troops during peaceful protests in occupied Kashmir. "There was no visible police presence there yesterday but the people saw one paramilitary vehicle and it caught their attention". Bhat's funeral, which was held at the "marytrs graveyard", saw heavy police deployment.

The deceased had been living with his aunt and sisters in Dalgate area of Srinagar for the past four years following the death of both his parents.

As the evening progressed, Srinagar grew tense as news of the grenade explosions came in.

Seven civilians were also injured at Aknoor, near the contested territory's border with Pakistan, in a barrage that claimed the lives of two Indian border officers.

Indian officials blamed the protesters and said the crowd was trying to drag the soldiers from their vehicle. Police initially denied involvement in the death until a video-shot on a mobile phone-showed the vehicle hitting the man.
