  • Google will roll out 'new Gmail' to all users starting next month

Users will have the option to opt out of using the new client for an additional four weeks.

At the moment, the new Gmail is entirely optional. You get new Gmail! 8 weeks after the July GA rollout, Gmail will switch its users to new Gmail.

After releasing it out in beta this spring, Google has now released a timeline for when users can expect to receive it on their accounts and when they'll lose access to the old style Gmail.

There's no word, though, on whether these changes will apply to regular users of Gmail.

However, in September users who haven't yet updated to the updated Gmail will be automatically transitioned to the new email look with the ability to opt out for another month. Next month, G Suite admins can either shift everyone to the new Gmail immediately, or let each employee decide whether they want to change.

Google has announced that the new Gmail layout - which was introduced back in April, and is now available as part of an Early Adopter Program - will be available to all users starting next month. Just head to Gmail.com, tap on Settings in the top-right corner (the gear icon), and the very first option should be "Try the new Gmail". The opt-out will also no longer be available to users who've moved to the new Gmail already.
