Fox News apologized on Tuesday for showing photos of Philadelphia Eagles players kneeling in prayer - not in protest - during a story about President Trump canceling a White House ceremony honoring the team for its Super Bowl victory.

Last year, the White House canceled a visit by the National Basketball Association champions, the Golden State Warriors. but that was after it's star players said they wouldn't be going.

Nick Foles and Carson Wentz with the Super Bowl trophy. Players could stay in the locker room, if they want to protest, National Football League has announced.

Eagles players rebuffed that notion, pointing out that no one on the team knelt for the anthem during last season.

Trump also disinvited the Warriors, who won last year's National Basketball Association championship, from the White House celebration in September when he saw star guard Stephen Curry say he would prefer not to attend.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney took aim at the president after the Super Bowl Champion Eagles were disinvited from the White House on Monday night. The policy requires players to stand for the anthem if they are on the field.

Eagles fans could still come to the White House today, Trump said, adding, "I will be there at 3:00 p.m. with the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus to celebrate America". "I know that you guys would love to engage on matters of conversations between the special counsel and the outside counsel, but we purposefully" remain separate from special counsel matters, Sanders said when pressed by CNN's Pamela Brown.

At least another 20 people have been injured in the eruption , the second major one this year from the 3763 metre peak. The head of the country's disaster agency had previously put the death toll at 33, but warned it would go higher.

Kenney's statement said that the Eagles team "embodies everything that makes our country and our city great" and that the players "represent the diversity of our nation - a nation in which we are free to express our opinions".

While several sources cautioned that a number of other factors - including the vulnerability of the candidate, "door metrics", polling and organization - play into decisions about resources, Trump has also considered what one White House aide described as "the broader loyalty question".

The president said Tuesday on the South Lawn that it's time to "explain why young Americans stand for our national anthem".

No one connected with the team said the players' reluctance to attend had anything to do with the national anthem, as Trump tried to portray the situation. "The President continues to spread the false narrative that players are anti-military". Star basketball players LeBron James, of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Stephen Curry, of the Golden State Warriors, said they agreed that whichever team wins the NBA championship would skip the traditional visit to the White House. "Honoring America! NFL, no escaping to Locker Rooms!" he tweeted.

Trump's statement said there would be a "different kind of ceremony" in place of the traditional team visit.

The politics were already playing out in the state's Senate race, where Republican Rep. Lou Barletta is challenging Democrat Bob Casey.
