  • Argentina confirm Manuel Lanzini is out of the World Cup with ACL injury

The 25-year-old Lanzini made 27 appearances for West Ham in the Premier League last season, scoring five goals, and started Argentina's 4-0 friendly win over Haiti last week.

Argentina midfielder Manuel Lanzini has been ruled out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.

Lanzini, a Slaven Bilic signing from Al Jazira for West Ham back in 2015, will be understandably extremely disappointed to miss his first World Cup tournament.

West Ham fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment at the news and with their superstar well in his recovery from a nasty injury. All eyes will now be on Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli to see who will be replacing Lanzini in the squad.

Inter Milan captain and striker Mauro Icardi is expected to be called up as Lanzini's replacement.

Twice world champions and beaten finalists in Brazil four years ago, Argentina face Iceland, Nigeria and Croatia in the group stage in Russian Federation this year.

West Ham will be pained to hear of the knee issue, which nearly certainly means he'll miss the beginning of the Premier League season, which is scheduled to get under way on August 11.
