President Donald Trump is commuting the life sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, a woman convicted of drug offenses whose cause was championed by reality TV star Kim Kardashian West.

"Ms Johnson has accepted responsibility for her past behaviour and has been a model prisoner over the past two decades", the statement reads.

Ms Johnson was released from jail yesterday, when she was immortalised on cameras while running towards her family members and hugging them in Aliceville, Alabama. "When Kim told me that I was being released, I started jumping up and screaming and crying and everyone else was crying", she said of the phone call.

Alice Marie Johnson was freed in the USA hours after her life sentence was commuted by Donald Trump.

"I had no idea that I was even facing a sentence like that because truly I felt that people who got life without parole had committed the most heinous crimes".

"There's a lot of family that want to see her".

Johnson became reunited with her family, and she was full of thanks to both Kardashian and President Trump. "This moment right now is happening because President Trump had mercy on me".

With compatible A/V receivers, you'll even be able to ask Alexa to switch your inputs and change the volume, which is pretty cool. There is an IR extender cable, and Ethernet adapter, PSU, voice remote, and AA batteries in the box alongside your Fire TV Cube .

Johnson herself told Business Insider just one day earlier that she had been waiting with bated breath for news about her case since Trump and Kardashian West's meeting. "It was the most exhilarating feeling I've ever had, Michael". In 1993, she was arrested and accused of participating in an operation that trafficked drugs, including cocaine, and was involved in money-laundering.

Johnson was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, and appellate courts and the U.S. Supreme Court had denied her appeals.

One of Johnson's attorneys, Brittany K. Barnett, similarly applauded Johnson's clemency.

CBS 42 spoke with Eric Guster of Guster Law Firm who says cases like Alice Johnson's are common.

Kim Kardashian West met with Trump last week.

Alice Marie Johnson is the second person commuted by Donald Trump since taking office. "The only thing I can do is to make him proud that I he did it and not disappoint him", she said.
