Trump on Wednesday signed an order order meant to end family separations at the border, a practice which has come under bipartisan and global criticism.

Asked about the possibility of an executive order on immigration, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters: "We'll keep you posted".

At least 2,000 children have been separated from their parents this year as a result of the administration's policy.

"I don't want children taken away from parents", Trump said on Tuesday during a speech at a National Federation of Independent Businesses event in Washington DC, reported BBC.

Sessions was asked on Fox News about a tweet by former CIA Director Michael Hayden likening what happened at Auschwitz concentration camp, where millions of Jews and other minorities were killed, to the separation of undocumented immigrant families at the United States border.

As children can not go to federal jail they are sent to other detention centres while their parents await trial.

Donald Trump has said he will be "signing something" later today to stop immigrant families being split up at the US-Mexico border.

The Trump administration has been charging people with crimes even if they cross the border and claim asylum.

He doubled-down hours after a series of tweets on the scandal, writing: 'Crime in Germany is up 10% plus (officials do not want to report these crimes) since migrants were accepted. Homeland Security officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Under the Obama administration, such families were usually referred for civil deportation proceedings, not requiring separation. Nielsen is working with the other agencies, including the Justice Department, Health and Human Services and the law enforcement agencies within Homeland Security on the proposed changes.

The executive order says the government will prosecute everyone who crosses the border illegally. They crossed through Mexico to reach the USA border. It also calls for providing or building structures that can hold parents and children together while their cases are considered in courts. The problem with consulate offices, however, is they may not have the resources to help the parents or they may not have an office in the same state as the children. "And children shouldn't be punished for their parents breaking the law".
