Backed immigration reform Bill fails, border crises rages on

The paper had earlier reported: "The bill represented House Republicans' most steadfast effort in decades to find a compromise between moderates and conservatives, legislation that provides a path to citizenship for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, as well as $25 billion for border security including the President's border wall".

The compromise bill would have provided almost $25 billion in funding for Trump's border wall, limited legal and illegal immigration, provided protection from deportation and a path to citizenship for 1.8 million Dreamers, and keep undocumented families together who had crossed the border if the parents were facing prosecution.

The bill was killed 301-121, with almost half of Republicans opposing the measure.

Trump has tried ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, which has temporarily let almost 700,000 young "Dreamer" immigrants brought here as children stay in the U.S. It's a crucial issue for Republicans from competitive districts with suburban moderates or many Hispanic voters - seats the party must defend to retain its House majority.

After the vote, Trump said he was unfazed by the failure, because he thought the Senate wouldn't back the measure.

In the morning, Trump had taken to Twitter to call on his party to vote for the "STRONG BUT FAIR IMMIGRATION BILL" in a lengthy message posted in all capital letters.

In rambling speech, Trump renews attacks on immigrants: "They will come by the millions."

Democrats and immigration activists said the vote proves that only a bipartisan compromise between Democrats and Republicans could become law.

The plan had always been to pivot to a more narrow family separation bill if a compromise couldn't be found, but even that has proven hard.

England to play Colombia in World Cup knockout match after Belgium defeat
The changes made for a disjointed first half, with both teams struggling for cohesion and chances few and far between. The high-risk strategy could easily have gone wrong for Japan had Senegal equalised against Colombia in Samara.

Mr Trump has issued an executive order reversing his own family separation policy, but around 2,000 children remain removed from relatives.

Last Friday, he urged Republicans to stop wasting time on the effort until after the November elections. The bill had criminalised the process and suggested deportation of 40 to 50 per cent of unauthorised immigrants who entered via a visa. Ryan told reporters Thursday that the goal of voting on the legislation was to avoid a different kind of insurrection, a procedural tool known as a "discharge petition" that would force votes on a different set of four polarized immigration bills.

"We need to continue to be a beacon of hope and aspiration for the rest of the world", Rep. Adriano Espaillat, D-N.Y., said on the House floor before the vote.

The ruling came after attorneys-general of 18 mainly Democratic states also filed a lawsuit challenging the family separations.

She said she was proud to have worked on getting language into the bill meant to permanently prevent family separations at the border and that, as the child of Haitian immigrants, "this issue is tangible and personal to me".

Shortly before the vote, Rep.

"He (Ryan) has been terribly cowardly about going against the president or going against some of the more extremists in his caucus and allowing the rest of the members to have the opportunity to take a vote", said Grijalva.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell sounded a rare note of optimism that legislation could be approved by the end of the week. "They've failed to give the president the money he needs to do that, and there has to be accountability", he said.
