On Thursday, July 5, 2018, Woods shared on Twitter an email from his agent, Ken Kaplan. The piece says that Kaplan's ability to get Kristen Stewart interested in Woods' movie An American Girl saw Woods "suddenly" ask Kaplan to represent him. During his career, Woods was nominated for two Academy Awards, one for the movie Salvador, a film that is extremely critical of US foreign policy in Central America in the 1980s.

In his tweet, Woods said that Kaplan was "politically liberal".

James Woods has been dropped by his talent agent - and he was delivered the news in an email sent during the Fourth of July holiday.

Kaplan added: "I mean I could go on a rant but you know what I'd say". I was thinking if you're feeling patriotic, you would appreciate free speech and one's right to think as an individual.

Woods, who is known for his conservative views, responded to Kaplan's resignation email in a tweet that questioned the agent's take on patriotism, but ended on a gracious note.

Woods, who received Oscar nominations for his roles in "Ghosts of Mississippi" and "Salvador", has been absent from the big screen in recent years.

One of the last jobs Woods held in Hollywood was voicing Lex Luther in the series Justice League Action.
