Now, they're reportedly preparing to deal with their other big issue: what to do with Carmelo Anthony. If Oklahoma City uses the stretch provision, it would slice off $90 million on the tax bill, and his salary would be spread out over the next three years at $9.3 million per season.

CITY-Carmelo Anthony will leave the Oklahoma City Thunder over the summer according to an ESPN report.

Marc Stein of the New York Times has also reported that Houston has interest in Anthony.

Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star and four-time Olympic gold medalist, would be pursued vigorously among contenders on the free agent market.

With George opting to stay as well, the Thunder face an epic $310 million payroll, which league sources told ESPN in the report would dictate the Thunder trade, buy out or stretch Anthony's contract impact under National Basketball Association salary cap rules - the latter move trimming $107 million off next season's salary and luxury tax total.

While his coaches praised him for being willing to try to change his game, the result was one of the worst seasons of Anthony's career and an underachieving Thunder team.

Anthony's situation allows for talks to teams who might release Anthony into free agency or would be looking for a massive contract that expires next year, providing a huge pool of money for next year's free agents.

Anthony said numerous right things during his time in Oklahoma City, talking continuously about how he'd "accepted" and "sacrificed" for a role as a third banana.

Anthony averaged a career-low 16.2 points to go with 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists this past season.

He expressed more than just concern about his role with OKC at the team's end-of-season exit interviews, when he called the possibility of coming off the bench next season "out the question", before saying, "I'm not sacrificing no bench role".
