An employee of a gas station in the 200 block of West Camp Wisdom Road, near the border with Duncanville, alerted the mother about 10 p.m. that a man was trying to get into her SUV. Police say 36-year-old Ricky Wright got went into her vehicle in which the two children were sitting.

Speaking to FOX 4, the mother-of-two recounted what happened Wednesday night at the local Shell station near Interstate 35 - where she almost lost both her vehicle and children in one fell swoop.

"I asked the gentlemen to pull over, to stop, to get out of the vehicle and he would not", the woman told CBS Dallas Fort Worth news. He turned around and looked at me.

Wright crashed into a light pole and was later taken to a local hospital.

"I should have emptied the whole clip but I didn't", Booker-Hicks told CBS-DFW.

"I'm not a killer or anything like that but I do believe in, you know, defending what's mine", Booker said. Before she returned, a man jumped into her vehicle and tried to drive away. Thankfully, she and her two children, ages 4 and 2, were not injured.

He was shot in the face just under his right eye, causing him to crash and later collapse in the middle of the street.

She said that in the moment, she hadn't been aiming to kill. That's when she says she reached for the gun that she had kept in her glove compartment. Officers say he will likely face two charges of kidnapping and robbery. It's just one of more than 20 arrests on Wright's record, some of them for drugs, assault, and theft.
