Dele Alli became an England hero after scoring against Sweden in the World Cup quarter-final match, but his choice of celebration has left some wishing football would just come home already.

Here are the reactions of England fans around the country to Harry Maguire and Dele Alli's goals against Sweden.

But England prevailed, winning 2-0 to book their place in the semi-final of the World Cup.

This is only the third time England have qualified for the semi-finals after losing to Germany on penalties in 1990 and 1966, when they won their only World Cup.

"England were the best team today". In 2014, the team didn't even make it out of the group stage.

They began solidly against England in a slow and sloppy start to the game that resembled a pre-season friendly at times, only to be outdone by England's eighth set-piece goal of its 11 in Russian Federation. "To get through the two games this week we needed all of that". Sharing a throwback picture of the pair, he wrote: "Yo @davidbeckhamif @england wins I buy you dinner where ever you want in the world, but if @swemntwins you buy me whatever I want from @ikeasverige ok?"

"They were better than we were and I have the greatest respect and congratulations to England".

But Hamilton was excited to be tackling what he feels is the "best track in the world". Niki Lauda has revealed that Mercedes tried to sign Max Verstappen a year ago .

Speaking after the game, captain Harry Kane said: "I thought we were fantastic today, Sweden made it very hard".

England were nearly made to pay straight after the interval and would have been pegged back if Pickford had not produced a top-drawer save to keep out a Berg header.

"We have to be here another week, and it's up to us now which games we play in. We've scored set-play goals because of him up to this point and he's got the one he deserves".

Most England fans were very, very grateful for modern technology.

It was another thrilling night of FIFA World Cup action, with England continuing their great form with a professional display against Sweden, while Croatia prevailed in one of the more pulsating encounters over host nation Russian Federation.

"To be able to take the team this far, and knowing the people who have done it in the past - not just World Cups but with Terry [Venables] and Don [Howe], the European Championship as well - people I have incredible respect for and hold in such high esteem, I feel privileged to be in the position".

The defender watched England from the stands at Euro 2016, and he admitted that he has not yet fully come to terms with everything he has achieved in the last two years.
