Those affected have been diagnosed with cyclosporiasis, an intestinal infection caused by the cyclospora parasite.

The trays were sold at Kwik Trip, FoodMax, Country Market, Meehan's, Potash, Demond and Kwik Star.

Two hundred twelve people have been infected with an intestinal parasite in four upper Midwest states after reportedly eating pre-packed vegetable trays under the Del Monte Fresh Produce brand, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

There have been illnesses reported in Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, and Minnesota. It said 212 laboratory-confirmed cases of Cyclospora infection were reported in "people who consumed" food from the pre-packaged Del Monte trays. A recall was issued on 15 June 2018 for trays with a "Best if used by" date of 17 June which were sold at Kwik Trip, Kwik Star, Demond's, Sentry, Potash, Meehan's, Country Market, FoodMax Supermarket, and Peapod stores in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and MI.

Before you swear off veggies forever, rest assured that the recall is in full affect. Del Monte has pulled its baby carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and dill dip all from the shelves.

'Other common symptoms include loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps/pain, bloating, increased gas, nausea, and fatigue. So far, the age range for those sickened is 13 to 79 years old.

The FDA has not identified which of the ingredients it believes to be the cause of this outbreak, and each component of these vegetable trays is under consideration.

Although the illness can be treated with antibiotics, symptoms can last from a few days to a few months.

The CDC urges consumers to not eat the recalled vegetable trays, and instead, they should throw them away. "FDA is now reviewing distribution and supplier information related to the vegetable trays; the investigation is ongoing", according to the FDA's update this week.
