US warships passed through the Taiwan Strait, officials say

  • The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold is one of two warships to have entered the Taiwan Strait

The warships, the USS Mustin and USS Benfold, headed north, the official said, and are the first American warships to pass through the strait since July 2017, when the USS John S. McCain made the transit.

The Chinese government had no immediately comment. An American aircraft carrier has not sailed through the Strait since 2007.

"Regarding websites, we object to Beijing dictating how USA firms, including airlines, organize their websites for ease of consumer use".

"Washington will not succeed". "But, it being Taiwan, it has a symbolic significance", he added.

"The US is sending political signals by sending warships through the Taiwan Straits", the article read.

Monday's editorial, however, warned that times have changed. Taiwan has shown no interest in being governed by the ruling Communist Party in Beijing.

Despite the lack of diplomatic relations, the USA remains Taiwan's chief global ally and American law requires the government to respond to threats to the island.

China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory, has criticized the recent attempts by the U-S to strengthen relations with the administration of Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.

However, the Prime Minister emphasised his understanding that women and men can experience situations differently. Trudeau has not treated the allegations against himself as seriously as those levelled against other people.

It will also make efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region as a responsible stakeholder of the area, it said.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has forged close relations with self-ruled, democratic Taiwan, which Chinese President Xi Jinping's leadership considers a renegade province awaiting reunification.

U.S. Marines usually guard missions in countries with which Washington has formal diplomatic ties.

Both Taiwan and the USA confirmed the ships' passage over the weekend. "It has reached a point where there are rising calls within the US political and defense establishment to help Taiwan stave off this pressure". It recently granted a license for USA companies to sell submarine technology to Taiwan. "So there'll be no rolling back by China".

Chen also said the tariff dispute between China and the United States is a prelude to more "strategic competition" between the two rivals.

At least four factors prompted the government to advise Air India to refer to Taiwan as Chinese Taipei on its website, two people familiar with the development said.

China typically has a negative reaction to such maneuvers but the warship's passage will likely be interpreted in Taiwan as a sign of support in light of recent Chinese military drills near the island.
