Federer applauded his opponent and shrugged off the loss. Federer no less than hammered Anderson to clinch the first set 6-2.

When Wimbledon got underway July 2, tennis fans of all loyalties seemed united in rooting for one pairing in Sunday's men's final: a reprise of the 2008 clash between Federer and Nadal, which produced what many believe is the greatest match in tennis history.

There will be a new Wimbledon champion as Roger Federer was upset in a thrilling a five-set match against South Africa's Kevin Anderson in the quarterfinals. "And I was able to scrape through that third set and the fourth set, and by the end, I felt I did a great job not thinking about things too much".

Federer's first double fault of the match was perhaps the most costly error either player made.

Federer and Anderson, who played 24 games in the deciding fifth set, had still not finished by the time Nadal and Del Potro took the Centre Court.

Federer's match point arrived when Anderson served at 4-5 in the third but, with the South African looming at the net, he made a hash of an attempted backhand pass.

Anderson had 28 aces in the match, but he is not just a big server.

This was also Anderson's first appearance in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, becoming the first South African man to do so since Wayne Ferreira reached the last eight in 1994.

Trump's ex-lawyer fires what could be a warning shot
This comes after the New York Times reported on Friday that Trump's team set new parameters for a voluntary meeting with Mueller. But in the ABC interview, he said he couldn't comment on advice of his lawyer.

"Down match-point, and two sets to love, I just tried my best".

Anderson, a three-time All-American at IL, moves onto the semifinals of Wimbledon for the first time in his career. Every set won by Anderson required an extra game to determine the victor.

Ever since then, Anderson has been improving his game with every passing tournament.

Another alternative to watch Wimbledon matches featuring Roger Federer live and free is to try out the FuboTV 7-day free trial which means you can check it out without any obligation to buy. His serve, which had been practically infallible through three rounds, was broken three times.

Even if Federer had managed to get past Anderson, as he nearly did, having held match point in the third set, there was no guarantee he would have gone on to win the title, especially with a rejuvenated Novak Djokovic in the other half of the draw, not to mention Rafael Nadal and Juan Martín del Potro. And he was up by 0-40 on Anderson's serve two games later and could not convert any of the break point opportunities. It rattled Federer, who blew the next match point and then double faulted on break point. Even at 10-all in the fifth, it's all good.

"I felt like I was just trying to keep myself very highly motivated, a lot of belief in myself, and said, 'Today is going to be my day.' Obviously it came very close to it not being my day", Anderson said.

Djokovic reached his eighth Wimbledon semi-final and 32nd at the majors after a stormy Centre Court clash against Nishikori. "I really do. I think with the performances I've had, I deserve to be in the semi-finals", Djokovic, whose last major title came at the 2016 French Open, said.
