The end result can be fewer face-to-face interactions and shorter attention spans, but the time slots that we're using our phones in are causing even more problems. In 2007, Steve Jobs announced the first iPhone. Angry Birds and other apps cost 99 cents or more just to download. "None of this would have been possible without the App Store".

Before the App Store, purchasing software online was a bit of a Wild West environment - and, in particular, discovering new applications and games for mobile devices like PDAs or proto-smartphones was a tedious and time-consuming exercise. In his keynote, Jobs told the audience, "And so, you can write fantastic Web 2.0 and Ajax apps that look exactly and behave exactly like apps on the iPhone". They can make a call, they can send an email, they can look up a location on Google Maps.

While the victor won't surprise you, there are a few interesting apps on the list. It was launched on July 10, 2008.

"Since day one, the App Store has been by far the easiest way for developers to reach the most people with our apps", he said. The number of available iPad apps triples in the space of three months.

Today, customers in 155 countries are visiting the App Store more often, staying longer and downloading and using more apps than ever before.

June 17, 2009 - Apple rolls out iPhone OS 3.0 and with it, the App Store gets a new feature: in-app purchases (IAPs), giving app makers a new way to monetize their creations.

A decade after it launched, the App Store holds more than two billion apps and is responsible for making the Services category - which also includes Apple Music, iTunes, and Apple Pay - the second largest contributor to Apple's revenue, second only to iPhones. Soon iPhone users had access to thousands on apps, not just the handful Apple had packed on to the phone.

Gone is the blocky design that had graced the App Store for years: In its place came an App Store with a refined magazine-style aesthetic.

Better with Moment cases: The only app specifically created to work with the Moment Battery Photo Case and Original Photo Case.

On July 10, 2018, the App Store officially made its way into the double digits.

According to Apple, More than 500 million people visit the App Store every week, with more than 1 million people taking time to read articles and features posted to the new Today page that went live with an App Store redesign past year.
