'Do not eat Honey Smacks cereal,' CDC warns amid salmonella outbreak

  • FDA: Retailers cannot legally sell Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal following recall

Popular children's cereal Honey Smacks has been linked to a massive salmonella outbreak that has infected 100 people. "The FDA has learned that some retailers are still selling this product". The CDC said illnesses after June 19 may not have been reported yet because it takes an average of two to four weeks between the time a person becomes ill and when their illness is reported.

While the recall covers those boxes of Honey Smacks with a best-by date of June 14, 2018, through June 14, 2019, the FDA is recommending consumers avoid the cereal altogether, because products with earlier dates could also potentially be contaminated.

In addition, the agency has advised the public to report any sales of the cereal to the FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinator in their area.

At the time, there were a number of salmonella cases in New England, including five in MA and one in New Hampshire.

Retailers should not sell or serve Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal.

And in my role I've got the eyes into Euro 2020 so it's not the right moment to make an assessment just yet". Goal scorer Umtiti said the win had come on the back of the work of the entire team.

Although Kellogg's recalled the cereals on June 14, the FDA reports that recalled packages of Honey Smacks cereal are still being offered for sale.

Samples of the facility's environment and the product collected during the FDA's inspection match the outbreak strain of salmonella mbandaka, the agency said.

Meanwhile, the number of sick people continues to increase.

The cases have been reported in 33 states, including New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, California, Maryland and Virginia. The first cases were reported in March and the most recent ones on July 2. No deaths have been reported in the latest outbreak.
