Rosenstein said he briefed Trump about the indictment before Friday's announcement and that the timing was determined by "the facts, the evidence, and the law".

"The president is fully aware" of the indictments, Rosenstein said.

Put simply, Trump has been doing Putin's bidding ever since he got elected.

"Glad-handing with Vladimir Putin on the heels of these indictments would be an insult to our democracy", said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

When asked about his upcoming summit with Putin earlier Friday morning, Trump said he would raise the issue with Russian president but didn't expect a "Perry Mason moment". John McCain in a statement. Voters want members of Congress to be a check on the powers of the presidency, not a blank check for Trump.

"If it is Russian Federation, which it probably is not, nobody knows who it is, but if it is Russian Federation, it's really bad for a different reason because it shows how little respect they have for our country when they would hack into a major party and get everything", Trump said.

Eleven were charged with conspiring to hack into computers and steal documents and release them with intent to interfere with the election. Two defendants are charged with a conspiracy to commit computer crimes.

■ They also hacked into a vendor that supplied software used to verify voter registration information.

The GRU, which answers to the Russian military's General Staff, is part of the state machine and its involvement would indicate that the orders to interfere in the USA election came from the very top.

Will they finally hold the head of their party to account for not doing anything to protect our democracy, keep our elections safe or ensure Putin and the Russians never do this again?

The Russians also sent more than 100 spearphishing emails to "organizations and personnel involved in administering elections in numerous Florida counties" in and around election day in November 2016.

Well, in the indictments released today, it appears the Russians were listening and took Trump's direction.

The Post has reported that organization is actually WikiLeaks, which published emails the hackers stole from the Democratic National Committee on the eve of Democrats' convention. They also watched a Democratic campaign committee employee access the organization's bank account information.

The then worked to distribute the documents starting in June 2016. They are accused of releasing the stolen emails on a website, dcleaks.com. "The defendants falsely claimed that DCLeaks was started by a group of American hackers and that Guccifer 2.0 was a lone Romanian hacker". They are accused of setting up an encrypted backdoor tunnel into the DNC servers and using it to shift gigabytes of information without being detected.

In the summer and fall of 2016, the operatives invented Guccifer 2.0 and used "him" to release additional stolen documents through WordPress. The indictment does not specify which state had been hacked.

It has been more than a year since the special counsel's Russian Federation investigation began.

Friday's charges are not the first for Russian nationals. Rick Gates, another Trump campaign aide, pleaded guilty to lying to investigators and one conspiracy charge.

A number of Trump associates have so far been swept up in the special counsel investigation.

Trump's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, is in jail in Alexandria, Virginia, awaiting trial later this month on financial fraud charges stemming from activities that pre-dated the Trump campaign. The 20 are four former Trump campaign and White House aides, three who have pleaded guilty to different crimes and agreed to cooperate, and 13 Russians accused of participating in a hidden but powerful social media campaign to sway U.S. public opinion in the election. The most prominent convictions have been for false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
