  • BREAKING Goodlatte Says FBI's Peter Strzok Will Be Recalled For Contempt

Representative Louie Gohmert went so far as to call out Strzok over his affair with Page, while other House Republicans, including Trey Gowdy, Jim Jordan and Bob Goodlatte, chastised him over what they believed was bias toward Trump during the investigations of Hillary Clinton's private email server and the Trump campaign's alleged contacts with Russian Federation during the 2016 campaign.

As our Allegra Kirkland and Tierney Sneed have reported, in far more eloquent terms, Thursday's joint interview of former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok, before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees, was weird.

Democratic members of the House committees participating in Strzok's hearing broke out into choruses of objections and repeatedly spoke over GOP lawmakers attempting to question Strzok.

For peppering Strzok with questions more uncanny than Goodlatte's quizzing on the scent of Walmart-shopping Trump supporters, Gohmert is our Duke of the Week.

But there was one particular exchange, involving Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.), a social conservative, that stood out for its personal animus and, many charged, its hypocrisy.

Meadows and other members of the Oversight panel have been working with the Judiciary Committee in a joint inquiry that they say is meant to determine whether the early stages of the FBI's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election were tainted by political bias. In other words, he's not above the law because the American people saw these lies today. "Putin is not a friend of democracy".

Like Strzok, Page said the political views she had expressed in anti-Donald Trump text messages did not affect her work at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, lawmakers from both parties said.

Outgoing Congressman Trey Gowdy brought up that text and another in which Strzok said Hillary Clinton should win "100 million to zero".

The president and his supporters have cited the Page-Strzok texts as proof that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department had an anti-Trump agenda. "No, he's not. We'll stop it".

Democrats Call On Trump To Cancel Summit With Putin
Trump said he had advised May to take a different strategy on Brexit , telling the paper: "I would have done it much differently". Multiple Democrats, including party leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer , said Trump should cancel the summit.

"I am specifically directing you to answer the question in response to our subpoena", Goodlatte said.

This prompted Gohmert in turn to raise his voice, turn to Strzok and say, "No, the disgrace is what this man has done to our justice system".

'At no time in any of these texts did those personal beliefs ever enter into the realm of any action I took, ' Strzok said.

An embattled Federal Bureau of Investigation agent whose anti-Trump text messages exposed the Justice Department to claims of institutional bias vigorously defended himself at an extraordinary congressional hearing that devolved into shouting matches, finger-pointing and veiled references to personal transgressions. "It simply couldn't happen". He described the texts as "hate filled and biased".

Finally able to defend himself after months of angry criticism from President Donald Trump and Republicans, Strzok was mostly unapologetic.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle Friday called on President Donald Trump to consider canceling his upcoming summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Finland after new indictments in the special counsel probe headed by Robert Mueller. "This information had the potential to derail, and quite possibly, defeat Trump".

It is point that has been largely brushed aside in Trump-friendly media circles, with a text Strzok sent to Page in May 2017 also receiving comparatively little scrutiny. Strzok was removed from the special counsel probe after the text messages were discovered a year ago, while Page had already left.

"I hesitate in part because of my gut sense and concern there's no big there there", Strzok said in the text.
