Trump May Strike Back at Disgraceful Former US Intelligence Leaders

  • Donald Trump threatens to revoke security clearances of Comey, Brennan, Clapper

President Trump plans to revoke the security clearances of a handful of former officials who have been critical of his rhetoric and actions toward Russian Federation, the White House announced Monday, in a move that immediately prompted claims of political retaliation.

The White House announced the plan Monday, accusing former officials of "monetizing" their security clearances.

So far, only one foreign leader has addressed a joint meeting of Congress since Trump took office: French President Emmanuel Macron on April 25.

Brennan declared last week that Trump's performance following a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki was "nothing short of treasonous".

They have "politicized, and in some cases monetized, their public service and security clearances", Sanders told reporters. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, who said he planned to urge the president to revoke Mr. Brennan's clearance.

Sanders responded that Trump is looking at his and several other Obama officials' security clearances, including former FBI Director James Comey, who Trump fired past year, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

While standing next to Putin, Trump last week openly questioned his own intelligence agencies' conclusions that Moscow tried to tip the scales of the 2016 election in his favour and seemed to accept Putin's insistence that Russia's hands were clean.

I think maybe my mistake was talking about what we expected going forward from him, not necessarily about the trade", Ujiri added. And clearly Ujiri thinks highly of DeRozan, as he also called him the "greatest player" in Raptors franchise history.

In a tweet shortly after Sanders' announcement, Paul appeared to take credit for the move. Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, is set to go on trial next week in Virginia.

Don't miss out on the latest news and information.

There is a formal process by which clearances can be revoked, Clapper said, but it's predicated on wrongdoing or other set procedures. "And it's an abuse of the system".

Says Kerik: "This constant attack and constant rhetoric, I strongly believe, is meant to undermine the president and to create division within the government. and do stuff to create havoc for the administration".

People who work in national security jobs often can retain access to classified information after they leave government, subject to numerous same restrictions or investigations as government employees. "Not one thing he has done for remuneration since leaving the government has been contingent on him having a security clearance". Haven't had a case of using it.

But Mary Beth Long, the first woman confirmed to serve as the Assistant Secretary of Defense - she served in that capacity from 2007 to 2009 under former President George W. Bush - tweeted earlier this week: "If they want to be journalists, fine; but you can not be one with access to intel".
