A strong quake hit Indonesia's Lombok island on Thursday, causing some buildings to collapse.

Another natural disaster has struck the Indonesian island of Lombok as the community battles to recover from Sunday's quake.

The latest quake was felt strongly on the island and followed a 6.9 quake on Sunday that killed at least 164 people and damaged thousands of houses.

The death toll from a powerful natural disaster on the Indonesian island of Lombok rose above 130 on Wednesday, as authorities appealed for food, clean water and medical help for some 156,000 people forced from their homes.

Indonesia's geological agency said the quake Thursday afternoon had a magnitude of 6.2 and was shallow, at a depth of 12 kilometers, centered in the northwest of the island.

The death toll for the earthquakes is believed to have topped 300, with the latest 5.8 magnitude quake further damaging buildings and causing panic.

Indonesia has been rocked anew by an quake with a magnitude of 5.9, according to the United States Geological Survey.

"People are always saying they need water and tarps", Spokesman Arifin Hadi told the AP about the current rescue efforts.

One aid agency, Yayasan Plan International Indonesia, has warned that thousands of children have been left homeless, forced to sleep in open fields without warm clothing or blankets. More than 1,000 schools have been damaged, the organization said.
