One man has been arrested after more than 70 people overdosed in a CT park in just one day from a bad batch of K2 synthetic marijuana.

Numerous cases took place at the New Haven Green, a park near the university where a similar mass overdose took place on July 4. Three of them happened Tuesday night.

A mass overdose on August 15, near Yale University left at least 76 people ill, caused by what's suspected to be a batch of synthetic marijuana, known as K2.

Three arrests have been made in the case, Hartman said, but officials can not say for certain if all three arrested or just one of them are directly responsible for the overdoses.

In some cases, patients who were hospitalized later returned to the Green and had to be treated a second time, New Haven Police Officer David Hartman told WTIC.

Police said Wednesday afternoon that they had made an arrest in connection to the overdoses, WFSB reports.

It's not yet clear what exactly sparked the suspected mass overdose, but authorities said they received reports that people were smoking in the area. The majority of cases are centered on the New Haven Green.

As Fire Chief John Alston Jr. spoke to reporters in New Haven, Connecticut, about a spate of drug overdoses on Wednesday, he heard shouting coming from behind him.

President Trump considers revoking security clearances for former U.S
At least one of the former officials, ex-FBI Deputy Director McCabe, does not now have security clearance, his spokeswoman said . He added: " Public officials should not use their security clearances to leverage speaking fees or network talking head fees ".

Bogucki said authorities aren't sure if all patients used the same drug.

"We literally had people running around the Green providing treatment", said Rick Fontana, the city's emergency operations director, according to The Associated Press. About five of his friends from the city's green overdosed on Wednesday.

The response from emergency responders has been "tremendous", Fontana said. It said major causes of the increase in deaths was due to the growing number of people using opioids and that the drugs themselves were becoming more potent.

Police and fire officials said the K2 was potentially laced with some type of opioid. "It is taking people out very quickly, people having respiratory failure", Police Chief Anthony Campbell asked WVIT to warn the public.

"It's a nationwide problem", Alston said of drug overdoses.

Some people at the scene also told officials that the K2 was "possibly" laced with the drug PCP, a source tells CBS. "The substance behind these overdoses is highly unsafe and must be avoided".

New Haven first responders were called to a similar overdose outbreak on the Green on July 4, when more than a dozen people were sick from synthetic marijuana. So far, there have been few scientific studies of the effects of synthetic cannabinoids on the human brain, but researchers do know that some of them bind more strongly than marijuana to the cell receptors affected by THC, and can produce much stronger effects.
