A state funeral service in Italy has commemorated dozens of people killed in Genoa's bridge disaster, as some outraged relatives shunned official ceremonies and rescuers pulled more bodies from the wreckage.

The collapsed Genoa bridge that left 42 people dead will take just eight months to rebuild, Italian motorway operators have said. The collapse has prompted fears over other ageing infrastructure in Italy and overseas, with Bulgaria announcing Thursday a plan to renovate more than 200 bridges while France has said one in three of national road bridges are in need of fix.

A state funeral is due to be held for the victims in Genoa Saturday but some families are reportedly so upset and angry that they have vowed to stay away. "And now, for the umpteenth time, angels have flown into heaven and paid for the mistakes of other human beings", Alessandro said.

"Now they're looking for someone to blame but dead people can not come back", said Giuseppe Rondinelli, a friend of one of the victims, who was among the mourners.

Rescue workers arriving at the ceremony were given a sustained round of applause, as the death toll rose to 41 after a couple from Turin and their nine-year old daughter were found beneath the rubble.

Families of 19 victims in the deadly bridge collapse in Genoa, Italy gathered on Saturday at a state-run funeral.

Others opted for private funerals, including one on Friday for four friends, young men in their 20s, from the southern town of Torre del Greco.

He pointed out that €2.5 billion ($2.8 billion) had been provided for "roads and trains in Italy" since 2011, while in April the Commission approved an investment plan for Italian motorways valued at €8.5 billion ($9.7 billion), which covered the Genoa area where the bridge collapsed.

Davide Capello was driving across the bridge toward the Italian city of Genoa when suddenly, the road dropped out from under him.

At that service, relatives angrily denounced authorities for what they claimed was a failure to keep the bridge safe.

Several vehicles, abandoned by their fleeing occupants on the intact ends of the bridge, were gingerly removed Friday. He said even though the cause of Tuesday's bridge collapse hasn't been determined "we apologize" since "perceptions count". According to Reuters, Giovanni Castellucci, the company's CEO, said it was "premature" to comment on the government's process of revoking concessions. He demanded that "responsibility be ascertained with rigor" for the collapse of the bridge, which linked two major highways, one leading to Milan and the other toward France.

Authorities are anxious about the stability of large remaining sections of the bridge, which was built over or adjacent to several apartment buildings.

Investigators are working to see if a design flaw or improper maintenance might have caused the collapse on Tuesday.

The event will be led by the city's archbishop, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, and attended by President Sergio Mattarella and Conte. Those gathered also applauded when the names of the dead were read out. Photographs, flowers and on one coffin a signed sports jersey, a sports trophy and a stuffed animal added personal touches.
