Trump Calls Scathing New York Times Op-Ed ‘Gutless’

  • Defense Secretary James Mattis then told colleagues Trump had the mental ability of'a fifth or sixth-grader

It blasts Trump as morally unmoored, criticizes his "impetuous" leadership style and depicts a "two-track presidency" in which Trump acts according to his own whims while many of his top aides, in the author's words, work to thwart his "more misguided impulses until he is out of office".

The New York Times' op-ed closely parallels behavior within the White House reported in excerpts published in advance of the official release Bob Woodward's book, Fear, based on extensive interviews with past and present Trump officials, majority "on deep background" in which they remain unidentified.

The essay was also called "pathetic, reckless, and selfish" by White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, who condemned the NY paper for publishing it. "Nearly 62 million people voted for President Donald J. Trump in 2016", said Sanders.

A spokesman for Vice President Mike Pence strongly denied Thursday that he was the author of a New York Times op-ed who claimed to be part of a "resistance" effort within the administration, as frenzied speculation continued about who penned the piece.

On Wednesday, however, the paper published something a little bit different: An anonymous op-ed story.

"It may be cold comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know that there are adults in the room", the official writes. We fully recognize what is happening.

US President Donald Trump reacts to a question during an interview with Reuters in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, August 20, 2018. "We believe publishing this essay anonymously is the only way to deliver an important perspective to our readers", the editors at the paper wrote. There's a lot to go over-too much to include here without plagiarizing WaPo-but the "too long, didn't read" (tl;dr) of what we know is that what we know is sure to make President Mad Online, well, mad online.

Two Russians charged over ex-spy's nerve agent poisoning
Basu said Novichok was sprayed on the front door of Skripal's house in Salisbury, where the two men were sighted on CCTV nearby. The men will also be charged with possession of novichok, a deadly Soviet-era poison that's banned by the Chemical Weapons Act.

However, Trump, speaking to reporters at the White House, lashed out at the daily, saying that "anonymous, meaning gutless, editorial".

The White House has called for the resignation of the senior administration official who wrote the piece.

"He is not putting country first, but putting himself and his ego ahead of the will of the American people", she said. And they were published a day after the release of details from an explosive new book by longtime journalist Bob Woodward that laid bare concerns among the highest echelon of Trump aides about the president's judgment.

He said the apparent crisis in the White House is "really scary" and called on members of Congress to stop defending the president for selfish reasons. The people working aginst Trump while working for him are doing so to ensure the overall success of the administration, the author claims.

"None of them voted for a gutless, anonymous source to the failing New York Times".

There was an immediate guessing game in Washington about who wrote the article and whether it came from someone within the White House or in another government agency.

He worked along with Carl Bernstein to unravel the Watergate scandal - a conspiracy coordinated from the White House to break into the Democrats' headquarters to steal info on opponents.
