  • NEW YORK CITY- Emergency crews are responding to JFK Airport after a jetliner carrying dozens of passengers described as seriously ill landed at JFK International Airport. Emirates Flight 203 from Dubai arrived at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday

It's not yet known what was making the passengers sick but their symptoms "point to the flu", de Blasio spokesman Eric Phillips said.

Emirates announced Wednesday that 10 passengers were taken ill on a 14-hour flight from Dubai to NY, where the aircraft was met by United States health authorities.

News broke on Wednesday that an Emirates flight was quarantined at JFK Airport, and it turns out Vanilla Ice was among those onboard. "Symptoms still pointing to the flu", he tweeted.

Phillips initially said the plane was not allowed to go to the terminal but instead had been quarantined.

There were conflicting reports about how many people were sick aboard the Emirates flight, which landed around 9:10 a.m. Wednesday.

By the time the plane landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport, a Port Authority source said about 10 passengers had "taken ill".

Rapper and reality TV star Vanilla Ice's first class status saved him from a potentially deadly virus on-board a plane bound for NY on Wednesday. He also noted that he was "happy" that the flight was a double-decker plane and he was seated on the top floor.

Upon its arrival and staging at a hard stand area, emergency medical response teams investigated the cause of the illness, which was later said thought to be caused by food poisoning. Health workers were evaluating about the passengers as the airplane sat on the tarmac of the airport, authorities said.

"The passengers - except for the 12 affected - are in the process of being released", it added.

Three passengers and seven crew members were hospitalized for testing, nine others who reported feeling ill refused treatment.

The Port Authority of NY said the plane was taken to a separate park of the airport.
