President Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani says a deal is near for Trump to provide written answers to questions from special counsel Robert Mueller, but Giuliani disputed a report that Trump has entirely ruled out a sit-down interview with the prosecutor probing the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation.
President Trump has been insistent in wanting to answer questions from the special counsel under oath, despite hesitation from his legal team.
Attorney Rudy Giuliani said he and Mueller's office are close to an agreement that includes written testimony, but sticking points remain.
In a letter last week, Mr. Mueller's team said it would accept written responses from Mr. Trump on questions related to Russian election interference.
"It would be in written form and if you want to follow up on our answers, justify it", Giuliani said. "Show us why you didn't get there the first time".
In subsequent interviews late Thursday, Giuliani backtracked slightly, saying that talks over answering obstruction questions were ongoing.
In a separate interview with Politico about obstruction questions, Giuliani said: "We're very opposed to that [but] we're not closing it off 100 percent".

Ariana Grande Shares Photo Of Ex-Boyfriend Mac Miller After Rapper’s Death
Fellow pop star Ariana Grande , who dated Miller seriously for almost two years, has not publicly addressed news of his death. Chance the Rapper credited Miller with helping him early in his career and called him "one of the sweetest guys I ever knew".
After the interview takes place, that is if it takes place, investigators would eventually send their findings to lawmakers who would then decide the next step.
Mueller's probe, which has come to be known as "Russiagate", has been around nearly as long as Trump has been president.
He further said, "We have said we would agree to written questions on Russian Federation after we review questions but no further commitment on interviews".
An outright denial could have forced the Mueller team to subpoena the president.
In addition to questions about Mr. Comey and Mr. Sessions, Mr. Mueller has expressed interest in Mr. Trump's role in drafting a statement to The New York Times about a June, 2016, meeting at Trump Tower attended by his son, Donald Trump Jr., and a Russian lawyer.
If the probe ends without a criminal prosecution of Trump, Hamilton says, there will be many Democrats who will be disappointed. The probe's opponents slammed it as judicial overreach, and Trump himself has always been calling the entire investigation a "witch hunt".
