  • John Legend Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber become EGOT winners with 'Jesus Christ Superstar'

With his newest win John has entered the small and exclusive group of talented people who have EGOT status - that is, an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. Legend passed EGOT status over the weekend when he picked up an Emmy - along with Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, also who turned EGOT - for their role as executive producers on the live television performance of the hit musical 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.

"EGOT" stands for the big four awards in the entertainment industry: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. Of course, Legend also starred in Jesus Christ Superstar and is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. The singer already had 10 Grammys, an Oscar for his original song from 2014's "Selma" and a Tony for producing the 2017 revival of the play "Jitney".

Legend was awarded his first Emmy at the annual awards show for his work in Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert, and revealed that he had never in his wildest dreams thought an EGOT would eventually be added to his resume. So amazed to be in such rarefied air.

He celebrated the monumental achievement on Instagram with a celebratory photo and caption.

John Legend is many things: former management consultant, husband to Chrissy Teigen, father to Luna and Miles, and caring friend to Kanye West. He is 39 years old and the first black man to win the EGOT.

They join 12 other EGOT recipients including Audrey Hepburn, Scott Rudin, Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg and Robert Lopez. And as of Sunday night, he's now an EGOT victor. The Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie will be awarded at the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony on September 17.
