Tottenham's Hugo Lloris pleads guilty to drunk driving fined £50,000

Lloris, who captained France to World Cup glory in Russian Federation was driving his 2018-plate Porsche Panamera along Gloucester Place, Marylebone, when he was pulled over during a routine stop by police.

The Spurs goalkeeper provided a sample containing 80 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Henry Fitch, prosecuting, said that police in an unmarked auto spotted Lloris' vehicle driving at 15mph in a 30mph zone and veering "towards..."

The footballer also veered his auto "towards parked vehicles" before correcting himself.

The officers who spotted Lloris were in an unmarked auto and pulled him over as part of a routine stop.

Hugo Lloris is expected to be picked for Tottenham's blockbuster clash with Liverpool if he is fit, despite admitting to drink-driving.

She said: "This is a very serious offence, as you know".

The legal driving limit in England in a breathalyser test is 35 microgrammes.

Before being pulled over, Lloris had been dining in a restaurant and was showered with drinks by fellow diners. I made a mistake.

David Sonn, the lawyer representing the player in court, says "the spectacular fall from grace is not lost on Mr. Lloris".

"On July 15 he was arguably the proudest man on the planet [after France's World Cup triumph]", Mr Sonn said.

"Forty days later, he was arrested in central London", said the lawer.

Lloris signed for Spurs from Lyon in 2012 and has made 209 appearances in the Premier League, keeping 75 clean sheets.

After sentencing, Joshua Harris, director of campaigns for charity Brake, said: "It is disappointing to see that someone who is a role model to many thousands of football fans has admitted breaking the law by drink-driving".

"This kind of unsafe behaviour is selfish, illegal and puts lives at risk".
