Ukrainian Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak on Monday dismissed as a "fake" a fresh statement by the Russian Defence Ministry on the Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 (MH17) crash, which claims that the missile that shot down the plane belonged to Ukraine.

The Boeing 777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed outside the rebel stronghold of Donetsk on July 17, 2014, killing all 298 on board, majority Dutch nationals.

"The missile with the serial number 886847379 intended for the BUK missile system on December 29, 1986 was sent by rail transport to military unit number 20152", said a senior military official, Nikolai Parshin, quoted by RIA Novosti state news agency.

Russian Federation has denied any involvement in the plane's destruction.

Lt. Gen. Nikolia Parshin, the ministry of defence's chief of the Missile and Artillery Directorate, told reporters that they were able to track down the Buk missile's paper trail using two serial numbers found on fragments of the rocket.

Pro-Russia news portal RT.com reported the missile was manufactured in 1986, after an global team of investigators led by the Netherlands discovered two serial numbers on the fragments of a rocket, marking the projectile's engine and nozzle.

"After the breakup of the Soviet Union, it (the missile) was not brought onto Russian soil and was incorporated into the Ukrainian armed forces", he said.

"In may 2018 JIT specifically requested to receive information about the number of missile components", the report said.

International Joint investigation team for the investigation of the MH17 disaster (JIT) for the first time in 2014 took note of the information submitted by the Russian authorities.

On the day that MH17 crashed, a rebel commander posted that his troops had shot down a Ukrainian military plane.

The Russian military did provide material assistance to the rebels, and journalists sighted sophisticated weapons in the separatist-controlled areas that were never in Ukraine's arsenals.

He said that highly qualified Russian experts came to this conclusion after a careful study and to prove that, he showed the Russian Defense Ministry's own video pointing out discrepancies in the original footage.

Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov also played a recording said to be of "intercepted talks of Ukrainian soldiers".

The Foreign Ministry's comment was issued after Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on Monday, which terminated the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation, and Partnership between Ukraine and Russian Federation.
