  • Tesla starts building own car carrier trailers to cope with Model 3 delivery rush

The company has also announced a "door-to-door service" named Tesla Direct to help with Model 3 delivery during rush week.

Pomp added that the delivery service is available on a "first come, first serve basis".

First, after finding no auto carriers available to deliver the new "entry-level" model, Musk approved plans to build vehicle carriers to transport new Model 3 sedans to Tesla locations. The company will certainly learn from these experiments, but as production numbers keep ramping up Tesla will necessarily need to look at better delivery logistics for the long term. In the outlook for the quarters ahead, Tesla said on August 1 that it expects to produce 50,000 to 55,000 Model 3s in Q3, which would be an increase of 75 percent-92 percent from the prior quarter.

A criminal investigation of Tesla by the States Justice Department is in the process, following to announcement made by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla that he was thinking of privatizing the company.

In a tweet, Musk wrote, "Wow, thanks for offering to help!"

Kimbal Musk is the brother of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and a member of the company's board of directors. The company began taking $1,000 reservation deposits in March of 2016 for the new electric auto. On Friday, Musk invited current Tesla owners via Twitter to assist employees in helping educate new customers about their vehicles for the rest of the quarter.

In July, Tesla said net Model 3 reservations at the end of the second quarter were roughly 420 000.

According to Bloomberg's Tesla Tracker, which tracks Model 3 output by analyzing vehicle registration data, government resources and speaking directly with Tesla customers, Tesla is building on average 3,104 Model 3's per week, well short of its goal of over 5,000 to 6,000 vehicles each week. The company has said that it expects to become consistently profitable beginning in the third quarter, despite a recent pattern of widening losses and increasing cash burn.
