The White House has not yet publicly detailed Mrs Trump's itinerary, citing security reasons. After recovering her confidence she approached again to give a young orphan a lengthy pat, apparently absorbed by the texture of its ear.

In Ghana, Mrs Trump visited the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, where she donated hampers and teddy bears to the sick children and also donated a phototherapy machine used for treating complications of jaundice in newborn babies, to the hospital.

Later during a visit at the USA embassy in Malawi, the first lady called her visit to the school an "amazing experience".

The First Lady, 48, who has undertaken the trip without her husband, President Donald Trump, 72, visited a national park in Kenya to highlight conservation efforts on Friday morning.

The first lady then ducked inside to observe an English classroom with 186 children in attendance.
