Reacting to the arrest of his brother and party president, Nawaz said Shehbaz Sharif set glorious example of public service, honestly and hard work that was acknowledged not only by the people of Pakistan but also by foreign governments and the global organisations.

PML-N supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has termed the arrest of Shehbaz Sharif deplorable and ridiculous.

The younger Sharif was arrested in a "shock" move by the anti-corruption body on Friday when Sharif appeared before it in the Saaf Pani Company case. Many had linked the arrest of the Sharifs and other PML-N leaders in separate cases, namely Raja Qamarul Islam and Hanif Abbasi from Rawalpindi, in July ahead of general elections a ploy to deny a level-playing field to the party on July 25. She again highlighted the political victimisation evident in arresting a party leader ten days before scheduled by-elections under the "smokescreen of accountability".

The PPP chairman said it was unexpected from the government that speaks of justice to arrest the opposition leader.

"All know that the PTI government is responsible for this revenge", he said.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president, who was kept in a highly-secured lock-up inside the NAB Lahore office, arrived in court in an armoured vehicle, under heavy security. The second case involves the ₹4 billion Punjab Saaf Pani Company scams. His arrest comes after blue-eyed civil servants Fawad Hasan Fawad and Ahad Cheema were taken into NAB's custody in the Ashiana scam.

The verdict of PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb is also circulating in regard to this case.

According to recent media reports that had quoted NAB officials, Fawad and Ajmal had provided "incriminating evidence" against the former chief minister besides information retrieved from Fawad's laptop which led to the arrest.

"The government is afraid that the PML-N isn't broken despite all the cheap tactics", party spokeswoman Maryam Aurangzeb said, adding: "It is an attempt to influence the by-election". Roads leading to court are also blocked.

He allegedly cancelled the award of contract of the Ashiana housing project to successful bidder "Chaudhry Latif and Sons" to oblige his "favourite" firm the "Lahore Casa Developers", a proxy group of "Paragon City Private Limited", causing a loss of millions of rupees. Former Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Khawaja Salman Rafique are also involved in this case and have been summoned on October 16.
