Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino was sentenced to eight months in federal prison Friday for cheating on his taxes.

Jersey Shore star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and his brother, Marc Sorrentino, will serve time in prison for tax evasion.

Sorrentino's brother, Marc, also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to spend two years in prison Friday. He and his brother were charged for filing false tax returns for approximately $8.9 million in income between 2010 and 2012.

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is going to jail.

Sorrentino's attorney is seeking probation, while the government wants him to receive a 14-month term. In 2011 he took "certain actions" to hide some of his income to avoid paying the full amount of taxes he owed, federal prosecutors said.

Marc, meanwhile, was sentenced to two years in prison.

In pronouncing sentence, Wigenton commended Michael Sorrentino for his progress in overcoming substance abuse but stressed that his actions in the conspiracy were made knowingly. Last year, he signed a bill capping the amount of state money universities can pay for speakers, because Rutgers University paid "Jersey Shore" cast member Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi $32,000 in 2011.
