India defeated Windies by a whooping margin of an innings and 272 runs inside the third day of the Test match at Rajkot.

Resuming their first innings on 94 for six at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, West Indies were dismissed for 181, almost three-quarters of an hour before lunch, with Roston Chase converting his overnight 27 into a top score of 53 and tail-ender Keemo Paul hitting an aggressive 47. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja also scored hundreds while Kuldeep Yadav took a five-wicket haul which ultimately ended the match early.

Prithvi Shaw, who announced his arrival with maiden Test century in his very first match, was awarded man of the match. Jadeja pushed on and was rewarded with his first Test century.

Jadeja hit exactly 100 not out while wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant missed out on three figures with 92, as West Indies bowlers toiled without much success on a chastening day at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium. "We believe he can turn matches for us", said Kohli.

The match will also be remembered for Kohli's 139 during which the world's top batsman became the quickest to reach 24 Test centuries after the great Donald Bradman.
