Last month, a Saudi Arabian journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, reportedly went missing inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

A vocal critic of the kingdom's rulers, Khashoggi went missing last Tuesday after he visited the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, for routine paperwork.

Trump told reporters at the White House that he has talked to the Saudi leadership "more than once" since Khashoggi, a U.S. resident and Washington Post contributor, vanished on October 2 after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

As the Middle East Eye reported Tuesday, "social media users have criticized the "deafening silence" from the U.S. administration following the alleged death" with many calling on Trump to demand answers from Saudi leaders.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen said on Wednesday U.S. lawmakers must send a strong message to both the Saudis and the White House that Khashoggi's disappearance was "totally unacceptable".

The report also said that the Saudis stayed at the Wyndham and Movenpick hotels in Istanbul, in the same neighbourhood as the Saudi consulate. It's a very serious situation for us and for this White House ... "I think we'll get to the bottom of it", he added. She says she has not seen him since then.

It would be a violation of global law to harm, arrest or detain people at a diplomatic mission, he said, and noted that no such thing had ever happened in Turkey's history.

"This is a bad situation".

Iran was exporting between 2.5 and 2.7 million bpd in April before the United States announced the return of sanctions. "We can't let this happen".

Cengiz also called on Saudi Arabia, King Salman, and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman to "show the same level of sensitivity and release CCTV footage from the consulate".

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he planned to contact Saudi authorities about the case.

All three officials pressed MBS, as the Crown Prince is known, for more details and urged his government to support a transparent investigation, Sanders added.

Khashoggi's fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, said she waited for him and he never came back out on October 2.

Trump, who took his first overseas trip as US President to the kingdom and whose son-in-law Jared Kushner has close ties to Prince Mohammed, said Tuesday he had not yet talked to the Saudis about Khashoggi, "but I will be at some point", without elaborating.

RSF also released a report on Wednesday that found that at least 15 Saudi journalists and bloggers have been arrested over the past year.

The team is said to include a Saudi special forces officer, members of the royal guard and a senior forensics expert. The Saudis, for their part, have not turned over any CCTV footage of his exit.

Before Khashoggi's disappearance, USA intelligence intercepted communications of Saudi officials discussing a plan to capture him, according to a person familiar with the information.

A critic of the crown prince, Mr Khashoggi was living in self-imposed exile in the U.S. and writing opinion pieces for the Washington Post before his disappearance. Turkish authorities have accused Saudi Arabia of killing the journalist, a claim they deny.

In Washington, Corker said he doubted accounts from Saudi officials that security cameras at the consulate did not record any images.

"I've never been more disturbed than I am right now", said Sen. He said he'll try to force a vote in the Senate this week blocking USA arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

The Sabah newspaper, which is close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, published images of what it referred to as the "assassination squad" apparently taken at passport control.

"We have seen conflicting reports on the safety and whereabouts of prominent Saudi journalist and Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi", Pompeo said in a statement.

It did not say how it obtained the pictures and data.

The Spectator reported claims that Mr Khashoggi had been offered a role as an adviser if he returned to Saudi Arabia but had declined because of "moral and religious" principles.
