When Facebook recently confirmed that a major hack had accessed the platform, it said that upwards of 50 million accounts were affected by the security breach.

The hackers accessed name, email addresses or phone numbers from those 29 million accounts.

Hackers stole neither personal messages nor financial data and did not use their access to accounts users' accounts on other websites, the company said.

Rosen said Facebook is cooperating with the ongoing FBI investigation into the breach, but would not give any details on who the hackers were or where they were based.

Between July 2017 and September 2018, attackers accessed Facebook and created a security vulnerability that allowed them to retrieve access tokens to take over people's accounts.

Users can check whether they were affected, and what information was accessed, by visiting Facebook's help center.

A company executive said on a conference call that Facebook will not provide country-by-country breakdowns of the affected users.

IMF warns Pakistan against ‘excessive loans’ from China
Against a basket of currencies, the yuan has depreciated less. "We will have to take a loan to support the falling economy". China and the U.S. trade war might also unleash an inflation surge worldwide. "We will get out of this".

A Facebook spokeswoman told the BBC it would not be taking this step "at this time". Facebook then goes into some detail on how it all went down, which starts with the attackers already having access to some accounts.

Hackers accessed much more private information in a recent Facebook breach than the social media giant previously revealed.

Regulators around the world have ongoing inquiries into another matter that came to light in March: How profile details from 87 million Facebook users were improperly accessed by political data firm Cambridge Analytica.

Once they had the tokens for the seed accounts, Rosen said the attackers used the tokens to access the 400,000 accounts and deployed scripts to harvest even more tokens at a larger and automated scale. While he declined to say what Facebook officials know about the attackers or their motivations for stealing the data, he said Facebook has no reason to believe the hack had any connection to the midterm elections scheduled for next month. Out of 30 million total impacted users, 1 million didn't have any data stolen; 15 million had their names and contact details stolen, but if you belong to the rest of 14 million users then everything from your contact details to devices used to your search history was up for grabs.

"People's privacy and security is incredibly important and we are sorry this happened", said Guy Rosen, Facebook's vice-president of product management. There was no Messenger content exposed, unless the affected person was a Page admin whose page received messages from someone, Facebook said.

With an initial set of accounts under their control, the attackers, said Rosen, exploited the vulnerable code to run a script that collected access tokens from their friends and the friends of their friends, representing a group of about 400,000 people.
