Proud Boys describes itself as a "pro-Western fraternal organization". After the rally was over, a number of bare-knuckle fights broke out with the men wrestling one another on the sidewalk.

The New York Police Department announced three arrests were made in the wake of a violent brawl Friday night after a speech by Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes, a controversial figure on the alt-right, at the city's Republican Club. He said he wished to press charges and three people were arrested.

The Proud Boys even waited to do a group photo after the fights.

The Proud Boys posed for a picture on the street before going to an East Side bar, he tweeted, adding that 'many fights were happening at once'.

About 80 protesters showed up at the club on Friday night chanting, "No racists, no KKK, no fascist USA" and holding signs and banners, including some opposing white supremacy.

Kai Russo, Caleb Perkins, and Finbarr Slonim were arrested and charged with assault, harassment, and petit larceny, the Daily Beast reported citing court documents.

According to a police report, three of the protesters chased after a Proud Boys supporter as he left the building, ultimately punching him and taking his backpack. In one video, an apparent group of Proud Boys could be seen beating a man on the ground.

"We will not tolerate any violence on the streets of New York City, and anyone, from any group, who participates in violence will be vigorously investigated", Shea said. Elected officials were outraged over the online videos showing the violence, saying they showed Proud Boys members were involved and should face consequences.

Police Commissioner James O'Neill said Saturday that video of the brawl is being reviewed to determine if additional arrests are warranted. 'We have seen this in other cities, but it is shocking to see it here'.

This weekend saw physical altercations between protest groups in two major American cities, both Portland, Oregon and New York City.
