Wu Chunfeng is the chairman of a private space contractor called Chengdu Aerospace Science and Technology Microelectronics System Research Institute Co. and a man dearly in need of a shorter company name.

China is set to launch a fake moon into space to help light up the biggest cities in the country with Chengdu, a city located in China's southwestern province of Sichuan, with a population of 14 million people being one of the cities earmarked for this fake moon.

He explained to audience members gathered at an event in the city last week that satellite will be able to light an area with a diameter of 10 to 80 kilometers.

Wu said they have been testing the illumination satellite for years, and they now feel it will be ready to launch in two years.

Rather than using up energy here on Earth, the satellite would reflect the Sun's rays from the other side of the planet back on to Chengdu.

However, the exact details of the spacecraft, the launch date and how the artificial moon would be maintained were not revealed. "When the satellite is in operation, people will see only a bright star above, and not a giant moon as imagined".

Liverpool's International Break Worsens With Naby Keita The Latest Victim
Sadio Mane has become the latest injury concern for Liverpool after it was confirmed the forward has broken a bone in his hand. He was due to start in his nation's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Sudan, but was taken to hospital prior to the game.

It would have eight times more light than the real deal, reported the Peoples' Daily.

Kang Weimin, director of the Harbin Institute of Technology's School of Aerospace, refutes these concerns, telling Calenne that the satellite will produce a dusk-like glow far too faint to transform night into day.

But the ambitious plan still wouldn't "light up the entire night sky", Wu Chunfeng, chief of the Tian Fu New Area Science Society, told China Daily.

The illuminated satellite is created to complement the moon and will be made of reflective material to reflect sunlight to earth.

Another Russian attempt to launch a space mirror in 1999 fizzled before it got off the ground, according to The Guardian. The scheme used a device known as the Znamya 2, which was equipped with a 25-meter mirror to illuminate a three-mile radius of land.
