Saudi Arabia's crown prince denounced the killing of Jamal Khashoggi as a "heinous crime" on Wednesday, breaking a three-week silence on the dissident writer's death just as Iran attacked its regional rival by claiming Riyadh thought it could get away with murder because of its close ties with the Trump administration.

Speaking at the investment forum, Prince Mohammed said: "Many are trying to exploit the Khashoggi affair to drive a wedge between Saudi Arabia and Turkey". "Now we ask Saudi authorities to work hard to reveal the names of those involved, from the bottom to the top", said the Turkish president, adding that Turkey may seek to have suspects in the case put to trial in his country.

"But on the other hand, once light has been shed on the matter and has been corroborated by our services, based on the hypothesis that Saudi Arabia's responsibility has been proven, then we would draw the necessary conclusions and take actions", he said, adding that such a move would not exclusively involve limiting arms sales.

Born in Saudi Arabia in 1959, Al-Assiri graduated from a military school in France and obtained his Master's degree in Saudi Arabia in an armed forces commandership faculty.

Central Intelligence Agency director Gina Haspel heard an audio recording of the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi during her visit to Turkey this week, two sources told Reuters on Thursday, the first indication Ankara has shared its key evidence.

The Saudi official also claimed that a forensic expert was present to erase all evidence of Khashoggi's presence at the consulate and safe house, so that if Khashoggi said later that he had been kidnapped, there would be no proof.

Saudi Arabia at first denied any involvement in Khashoggi's death but a Saudi official eventually attributed it to a botched attempt to return him to the kingdom.

Khashoggi, a columnist for The Washington Post, had gone missing since entering the Saudi consulate on October 2.

Sarah Leah Whitson, the executive director of Human Right's Watch's Middle East and North Africa division, said that Salah Khashoggi and his family left the Saudi capital of Riyadh on Thursday after a travel ban on him was lifted.

Following a global outrage, Riyadh acknowledged that Khashoggi was killed in a fistfight inside the consulate after an interrogation went wrong.

Saudi state oil giant Saudi Aramco said it had signed deals with 15 worldwide partners worth more than US$34 billion.

Saudi officials raised the idea of a security pact in advance of Trump's visit a year ago to Saudi Arabia, where he announced a massive arms deal. They will not be able to do so as long as King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and President Erdogan are in office. But Sabah, another pro-government newspaper that has published leaks about the case from Turkish officials, said Saudi Arabia has yet to give Turkish authorities permission for a search.
