"I think we might do an electric bike, yeah", Musk said.

Panasonic already makes money on batteries for the Model S and Model X, which it produces domestically, President Kazuhiro Tsuga said in an interview.

While Musk said he doesn't really "think that much about competitors", he conceded that Google's Waymo was probably Tesla's strongest competitor in terms of offering self-driving technology.

During an interview on the Recode Decode podcast, Musk talked about upcoming products Tesla is designing, including an updated Roadster, a semi-truck and a pickup.

"It's important to have an electric sports auto that's faster than the fastest gasoline sports vehicle", Musk said.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have been interviewing former Tesla employees, in some cases using subpoenas to compel them to submit to interviews. While the company admitted there would be challenges, it said "we now expect to achieve a production rate of 5,000 Model 3 vehicles per week by late Q1 2018".

Iran's oil sector faces major blow as United States sanctions re-imposed
Others such as Russian Federation , the United Arab Emirates and Iraq could potentially squeeze out a little more as well. The Trump administration has looked to other Middle Eastern producers, most notably Saudi Arabia, to increase production.

News of the SEC's subpoenas comes a few weeks after Musk settled with the agency on a second investigation into his claims on Twitter that he would take Tesla private.

The filing adds that Tesla is cooperating with a Justice Department request for information about Model 3 forecasts.

The $58 billion company agreed as part of the SEC settlement to more closely monitor Musk's social-media commentary.

The SEC's question may hinge on whether Musk could have known during that Q3 earnings call that the problems with the Model 3 assembly line would take longer to fix than his production forecast projected.

Last week, investors were cheered by the company's third-quarter net profit, wider margins and positive cash flow, which sent shares climbing.
