An early political supporter who was in lockstep with much of Trump's domestic policy agenda, Sessions's fatal mistake appears to have been his decision to recuse himself from overseeing Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation-a move that Trump openly criticized as a "betrayal", even though Sessions acted on the advice of career Justice Department ethics officials.

Protesters gathered Thursday in cities from NY to California in a warning to the White House not to derail Robert Mueller's probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election.

Through his CNN role, where he was deeply critical of the Mueller probe, Whitaker got to know Trump, who saw him on TV and later met in person.

Whitaker's selection by Trump as acting attorney general drew sharp criticism from Democratic lawmakers, who described it as an attempt by the president to undermine and possibly end Mueller's investigation.

"It is ORDERED by the Court on its own motion that each party submit a supplemental brief addressing what, if any, effect the November 7, 2018 designation of an acting Attorney General different from the official who appointed Special Counsel Mueller has on this case", the order says, giving the parties a deadline of Nov. 19.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's appointment letter authorizing the special counsel investigation did not ban Mueller from investigating Trump's finances.

In 2017, Whitaker wrote an opinion piece featured on CNN titled "Mueller's investigation of Trump is going too far".

Matt Whitaker has a great reputation and that's what I wanted, ' Trump said.

Leftists Rally at White House to Protest Trump, Protect Mueller
Whitaker wrote. "If he doesn't, then Mueller's investigation will eventually start to look like a political fishing expedition". The new acting attorney general, Matthew Whitaker , has a vendetta against those climate investigations into ExxonMobil.

The demonstrators believe that special counsel Robert Mueller should continue the investigation into what role Russian Federation played in the 2016 presidential election.

"He worships him", a longtime friend said of Whitaker and Trump. "He's decided to make a change, and we'll take a look at who he sends up", said McConnell.

"Congress has to step in, and protect this investigation".

He said that other former Trump associates Paul Manafort, Michael Cohen and Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg are all cooperating with the government, and that the "public needs to see the results" of the probe.

Trump forced the resignation of Sessions on Wednesday, a day after elections in which his fellow Republicans lost control of the House but increased their majority in the Senate. "We the people are the ultimate power in our democracy, and Donald Trump can't take that away from us". The investigation, led by special counsel Robert Mueller, has already netted multiple indictments and guilty pleas.

"It would create a constitutional crisis if this were a prelude to ending or greatly limiting the Mueller investigation", said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

"President Trump has fired the attorney general". Conway is the husband of the top White House aide Kellyanne Conway. Mitt Romney, who just won election to the U.S. Senate from Utah, also tweeted that the Mueller probe should be allowed to proceed "to its conclusion unimpeded". Trump said this week a permanent replacement will be nominated at "a later date".

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has resigned at the request of President Donald Trump, according to a letter delivered to the White House, after becoming a target of the president's open contempt for ceding control of the Russian Federation investigation.
