  • U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo speaks to reporters during a news briefing at the State Department in Washington

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will travel to NY on Thursday to meet a top North Korean official, the State Department has announced.

"We have a good opportunity to continue discussions around the denuclearization", said Sunday, Mike Pompeo, announcing his next meeting with Kim Yong Chol. "The United States remains focused on the fulfilment of the commitments made by the president Trump and president Kim at the summit in Singapore in June".

Pompeo had said Sunday that he would be meeting Kim Yong Chol in NY, where the two would "make sure that the summit between our two leaders can take place, where we can make substantial steps towards denuclearization".

A Thursday meeting between Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his North Korean counterpart in NY has been abruptly called off without explanation in another setback for the Trump administration's nuclear negotiations.

Chinese President Xi Jinping could soon visit the North, and according to China-based sources, North Korea is relaxing phone restrictions. "Ongoing conversations continue to take place".

The top U.S. military officer said on Monday (Nov 5) that the United States would have to start making changes to its military posture on the Korean peninsula over time if talks with North Korea advance.

Meanwhile, a satellite imagery analysis published by the website 38 North suggested that North Korea is continuing uranium mining and milling operations at one of the country's largest declared uranium ore concentrate facilities.

But the growing divide between the US and South Korea also has many concerned, as liberal President Moon Jae-in pushes for closer Korean ties including demilitarizing the border and increasing economic cooperation.

Liverpool legend Souness blames Klopp for Red Star shock
Hans Vanaken scored twice for the Belgian team, Brazilian forward Wesley made it 3-0 and captain Ruud Vormer completed the rout. If Liverpool beat PSG, and Red Star draw with Napoli then Liverpool can lose to Napoli in the final game and still go through.

Although Trump has had warm words since he meet with Kim Jong Un in Singapore in June, his administration has nevertheless annoyed Pyongyang by maintaining a regime of sanctions.

At a White House press conference, the president said Pompeo's meeting with Kim Yong Chol will be rescheduled.

"There have been cases in the past when US-North Korea talks were delayed, so there is no need to shift between hope and fear", a senior ministry official told reporters.

Kim Eui-kyeom, the Blue House spokesman, said in a briefing Wednesday, "I don't believe that the postponement [of the high-level talks] means that the North-U.S. negotiations have become null or lost momentum or direction".

News of the postponement came after North Korea's Foreign Ministry criticized the US on Friday for its continued support of sanctions and hinted it may resume nuclear development.

USA and foreign sources close to the talks paint a picture that's starkly different from the image President Donald Trump sought to convey Wednesday, when he told reporters the administration is "very happy with how it's going with North Korea".

In their talks, Kim repeatedly cited Vietnam's successes, South Korean media reported.
