President Trump weighed in on the reinstatement of CNN correspondent Jim Acosta's White House press credential after the White House had revoked it last week, and he also said he has answered questions from the special counsel regarding the investigation into Russian Federation, though he hasn't submitted them.
CNN argues that taking away Acosta's pass violated his and the network's First and Fifth Amendment rights (freedom of the press and due process, respectively).
Kelly criticized the US government's action, commenting that CNN is likely to prevail in demonstrating the reporter was denied due process in the credential revocation process.
"The White House also argued that CNN did not suffer harm because of Acosta's revoked credential, given that they had other reporters who could still access the White House", McLeod reported.
But the judge will rule on all of that later.
The White House's explanations for why it seized Acosta's credentials have shifted over the last week.
"President Trump wants it to be a free-for-all", CNN's lawyer said. "The First Amendment is alive and well now", says Huntsman at one point. It disputed the government's claim that the president has "absolute, unbridled discretion to decide who can report from inside the White House". As such, if the White House wants to crack down on reportorial bad behavior, they should develop standards for what kind of offenses would cause reporters to lose access-not just revoke passes willy-nilly when they provoke the administration.

The judge is a Trump appointee. "There's no First Amendment right to access the White House grounds", Burnham said.
Daily Star Online previoulsy reporterd CNN was suing the US President after it withdrew Acosta's press pass.
The White House may have an interest in controlling its press facility, the judge noted, but he said a violation of constitutional rights is contrary to the public interest.
But Kelly said that a 1977 D.C. Circuit opinion, involving a reporter for The Nation who was denied a press pass by the Secret Service, requires that the White House give proper notice of a revocation and an opportunity to respond. "The White House is not prohibiting CNN from being in there".
The White House soon dropped that phony excuse, instead claiming that Acosta's grandstanding was unfair to the other White House press corps reporters.
As WND reported, at the news conference Acosta began by challenging Trump's description of the Central American caravan as an "invasion".
In a filing on Wednesday, the Trump administration said they had a compelling reason to pull his pass - that he had disrupted the press event after refusing to yield the floor to another reporter. Videos of the encounter show Acosta pulling back as the staffer moved to take the microphone at the press conference. Tellingly, Trump´s most friendly outlet, Fox News, joined the suit calling for Acosta´s pass to be returned.
