  • Illegal Immigrants Trump Golf Course

Sanda Diaz, a Costa Rican native, told the Times that she was also an illegal immigrant when she worked at the club from 2010 until 2013.

"We have tens of thousands of employees across our properties and have very strict hiring practices", said a Trump Organization spokesperson in a statement sent to AFP.

Morales' journey from cultivating corn in rural Guatemala to fluffing pillows at an exclusive golf resort took her from the southwest border, where she said she crossed illegally in 1999, to the horse country of New Jersey, where she was hired at the Trump property in 2013 with documents she said were phony. She claims her bosses knew she was not authorized to live in the USA but hired her anyway.

Morales says lower-level managers at the golf club helped her circumvent Trump's enforcement rules.

Experts said Mr. Trump's companies could have avoided the embarrassment if they'd signed up for E-Verify, the federal government's online portal that does a thorough check of new hires, querying Social Security and Homeland Security information to make sure someone is eligible for work.

Trump built his 2016 presidential campaign around a hard-line stance against illegal immigration. "We sweat it out to attend to his every need and have to put up with his humiliation", Morales told the New York Times.

He added that there were more like the two workers he represents working for Trump without documents and stressed the management "absolutely" facilitated their illegal employment.

The Times reported that she has applied for protection under asylum laws and is exploring a lawsuit claiming workplace abuse and discrimination.

Morales tells the Times that she was motivated to speak up because she was sick of hearing the president attack undocumented immigrants while on the campaign trail.

"Ironically, the threats often came from the same supervisor who had employed them despite knowing their undocumented status and even provided them with forged documents".

For example, Trump's deputies have successfully blocked bipartisan effortsto greatly expand the H-2B program for seasonal visa workers, including hotel workers such as Ms. Morales.

Their attorney Anibal Romero claims at least a dozen undocumented immigrants are on the club's payroll which, if true, conflicts with the president's position on illegal immigration.

The White House did not immediately respond to Newsweek's request for comment.

"I'm exhausted of being humiliated and treated like a stupid person", she said in Spanish during a brief interview. Today, she spent the day with her lawyer, and as news of her disclosures spread, she did not answer a phone call from her supervisor at the golf course.

"I ask myself, is it possible that this señor thinks we have papers?" She bravely spoke out against Trump, despite know she could lose her job.
