  • iPhone XR Accounted for 32 Percent of Total iPhone Sales in First Month of U.S. Availability

As per the report from CNBC, the California-based tech giant will begin assembling the iPhones via Foxconn's assembly by early 2019.

Apple's high-end iPhones will be assembled at Foxconn's facility in Sriperumbudur town of Tamil Nadu.

If this goes ahead, it will help Apple manufacture more iPhone models in India, helping them meet 30% requirement of locally-manufactured products in order to get clearance for opening retail stores in the country. The company is expected to invest $356 million for expanding the plant, which includes iPhone production.

Apple products in India are considered to be premium and yet quite expensive, especially with the iPhones. There were even sources who claimed that this resulted to the "disappointing" performance of the iPhone XR.

The Hindu newspaper first reported on December 24 that the Foxconn plant would begin manufacturing various models of the iPhone. There's a catch, though, as it requires a trade-in of an iPhone 7 Plus device launched two years ago.

This is a substantial 33 percent jump in the number of Android users who switched to iOS after the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were launched previous year, and a whopping 45 percent increase when compared to Android switchers in the month after the launch of iPhone X. On the other hand, the combined sales from Android users of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus was 12 percent.

The latest data from Consumer Intelligence Research (CIRP) shows that in the first month of its availability, the iPhone XR accounted for 32 percent of the total iPhone sales in the United States.

Full details of Apple's deal with Hon Hai are not yet clear and could change. Assembling iPhones in India will also allow Apple to come back strong in the local smartphone market with reduced price tags for its devices.
