Instagram's "accidental" update caused a meltdown among users

The update wasn't rolled out to all and only a few managed to use it. Users who got upgraded to the new sideways scrolling feed update went absolutely insane and started complaining about the feature.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri wrote on Twitter that the horizontal feed was meant to be "a small test" that "went broader than we anticipated".

Instagram won't get many double taps for their newest update.

In an update that seems to have begun rolling out globally on Thursday, the social media app allowed users to tap side-to-side rather than scrolling through their feeds vertically.

Instagram, in response, very quickly changed their tune and removed the feature, writing that the whole thing was actually "due to a bug".

You'd think Instagram would know by now that even the smallest changes can send users into a paranoid frenzy. "We apologise for any confusion", the company tweeted.

Instagram releases major update to feed, users trash it on Twitter and the update disappears

"Introducing a new way to move through posts", the pop-up said, alongside a message encouraging people give it a try.

Instagram sent shocvk waves through the mobile world this morning after it started testing a horizontal scrolling main feed for its app. "Tap through posts, just like you tap through stories".

But it is true that the future of Facebook and Instagram depends on Stories, not on the traditional News Feed.

To say that the latest Instagram update was short-lived may be a bit of an understatement. If you do scroll up, you will enter the comments area of the photo you are now on. To revert back to the previous version of Instagram, simply restart the app.

After all one can not forget Snapchat's disastrous user interface change, when it clubbed Stories and Discover content together, much to the anger of users. "I'm not trying to swipe photos @instagram can I have the old layout back?" tweeted user @j_mallari.
