Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene has paid the price for the Italian team's world championship drought, with the 61-year-old sacked as team principal just eleven weeks out from the start of the new season. Arrivabene has allegedly been accused of cultivating a toxic work environment by blaming the team's technical wing for the Scuderia's failure to secure championship wins in the 2017 and 2018 seasons, despite Binotto-led vehicle development resulting in the two most competitive Ferraris of the last decade.
This was despite Ferrari having the quicker vehicle for long stretches during the season, however team mistakes, as well as driving errors from Vettel, saw their hopes crumble as Lewis Hamilton sealed the titles with two races remaining.
In a statement, Ferrari said, "After four years of untiring commitment and dedication, Maurizio Arrivabene is leaving the team".
"The decision was taken together with the company's top Scuderia Ferrari's Team Principal".
Binotto, who joined Ferrari in 1995 as a test engine engineer, had been the team's technical chief since 2016 after James Allison stepped down from the role.
Arrivabene and Binotto were reported by Autosport to have butted heads over the direction of the Scuderia. While some key figures have left - notably technical chief Paddy Lowe to Williams - they have been quietly and efficiently replaced and the powerhouse operation has continued.

Ferrari has won a record 16 constructors' titles and is unique in having competed in every season since the first in 1950.
The move to replace Arrivabene comes after the team's failure to secure a Constructor's championship despite having a fast vehicle.
The chances of a leadership change increased when John Elkann took over as Ferrari president midway through last term, following Sergio Marchionne's death, and the change was confirmed on Monday, with Binotto now tasked with leading Ferrari's quest to return to their heydays.
